Crowns and Bridgework are often used in conjunction to replace missing teeth.

Bridgework can either be attached to crowns to fill a gap between two natural teeth or crowns may also be used separately to provide additional support to a natural tooth.

Crowns
Crowns can cover a tooth to create a more functional shape and size, restore badly broken down dentition, and cover any discolouration. They may be used for aesthetic or functional purposes and can effectively treat both front and back teeth.

Crowns are usually made from either porcelain or gold alloy. Modern technology means that we are able to make excellent all-ceramic crowns. They may be made to match the exact colour, texture and translucency of your natural teeth.

Bridges
Bridges may be used to replace missing teeth by literally 'bridging' the gap between the remaining teeth. A Bridge can fill a gap of up to four teeth if there are healthy natural teeth flanking the gap. A Bridge will replace your missing teeth and will appear entirely natural.

Bridges play an important role in helping to prevent the cycle of problems that occurs when just one tooth is missing. This can include shifting and drifting of remaining teeth, decay and periodontal bone loss. People who have lost teeth can also appear older when facial muscles begin to sag and change the facial profile.

Dr. Andrew Brown has a special interest in Crown and Bridge treatment. He is one of a few UK dentists to have undertaken additional training at the Pankey Institute in Restorative Dentistry procedures.
