As a new pateint, we will spend time to get to know you and your dental health condition.
Visiting Dr. Andrew Brown
Dr. Andrew Brown will thoroughly examine and evaluate your dental health needs and recommend the best options available for your individual needs. Dr.Andrew Brown will closely examine:
- Each tooth. He will also review the condition and stability of any existing dental work and how well the teeth fit together when you bite (your occlusion).
- The muscles of your face, your chewing muscles, the stability of your TMJ (Jaw Joint) and their condition.
- Your gums and their vulnerability to gum and tooth problems.
- The 'soft' areas inside and outside your mouth. This includes an Oral Cancer Screening.
- Computer images of your teeth and x-rays are taken. Dr. Andrew Brown will also assess the need for further diagnostic procedures (for example, special x-rays and / or study models). If special x-rays or study models are required we shall make further appointments to take and discuss these.
After your examination, you will learn about your current dental health condition and any areas that might need immediate attention. Together, we will begin to assess your potential treatment needs in the future.
We feel it is important for all the above areas to be reviewed regularly. Any changes are noted and corrected, as each can be affected by even small alterations in general health, lifestyle, diet, stress levels and posture.
Visiting the Dental Hygienist
Within our practice, we generally recommend that you see our dental hygienist regularly. Your first visit with her usually takes 45 minutes, when she will take detailed base line measurements of your gum health.
Healthy gums are paramount to long term oral health. Our dental hygienist will help you to optimise the day-to-day care of your mouth and will treat any gum disease that you may have. Once your treatment is complete our dental hygienist has a key role to play in the ongoing maintenance of your oral health.
